AWKtober!

What is AWKtober, you ask?  It’s an officially unofficial season of the church calendar!  (We even have a mascot – the cringe face emoji.)  AWKtober is a reminder that church is not a service we attend, but a community we participate with.  Being the Church is impossible to do on our own.

“There’s no such thing as a solitary Christian.” (N. T.Wright)

Our Modern culture prides itself on how individualistic and self- sufficient we are, yet loneliness and isolation are at an all-time high.  We could use some more ‘ubuntu’; the African concept meaning, “I am, because you are,” or “People are not people without other people.”  AWKtober is an invitation to lean into the risky business of community.  It’s okay to be awkward – whether you’re asking someone’s name that you’ve “known” for over a year, or taking the risk and inviting someone new to your home for a meal.  We seek to be a Jesus-centred community and community is a spiritual discipline that takes time and practice.  It’s something we surrender into as we move from “me” to “we”.

“The way God designed our bodies is a model for understanding our lives together as a church: every part dependent on every other part… If one part hurts, every other part is involved in the hurt, and in the healing.  If on part flourishes, every other part enters into the exuberance.” – 1 Cor. 12:25-26 (The Message)

Stay tuned for Awktober events....
